The research focuses on the potential of topographic elevations by means of aerial scanning with the help of drones, as an alternative for creating and completing the existing map database necessary for works in almost all fields of activity that concern the national economy. Research objectives are geared towards developing methodologies that use digital systems and geospatial data to update, complete and store the information needed for thematic mapmaking and identifying the most appropriate geospatial technologies that can be used. Utilizing aerial scanning enables geospatial data based on ultra-high resolution digital images and minimizes ground measurement works. Information can be stored in the form of digital databases (GIS) that allow operations which were not possible with classic cartographic technologies such as checks, queries, updates, Internet publishing, multiple and remote accessing, securing, etc. Areas of interest in which these systems (thematic maps) are very well-suited concern the environment, agriculture and forestry, climatic, pedological, geological, orographic, hydrological, calamity risks, pollution, tourism, localities, population, transport, and construction. Digital data obtained is integrated and inter-operable, allowing for queries and analyses, with periodic updates, a hierarchical access and validation system and a high level of physical and informational security.
