This article discusses the use of a 3D printer as a complex machine enabling not only 3D printing but also laser engraving and cutting. With a suitable design, the print head can be easily replaced with an engraving head [1]. With regard to the laser power, wood materials can be engraved or marked, and with the use of a chemical-based agent for engraving, we can apply it also to metals. A sufficiently powerful laser can cut even thin veneer, which can be used to create templates, stencils, models and graphical items. Acrylic glass can even be cut, which can be used as a design element or as a material for the production of various boxes or small constructions, which do not require great strength, especially in the field of electrotechnics. The structure and control of a 3D printer are basically the same as for any CNC machine. The adjustment consists of both the installation of a laser module directly on the print head and with the printing mechanism, and it is also possible to provide a complete adjustment of the head. After removing the print head, it is then possible to install the head with the laser module. It is also necessary to interconnect the electronics and the control laser module to the main board for controlling the 3D printer. It is also important to adjust the firmware for the laser pulse control. Stepping and other settings remain unchanged. After adjusting the structural design of a 3D printer, and interconnection of its control, it is necessary to adjust the laser beam. Laser modules have a standard sharpening lens with adjustable focus. The advantage is also the movable z-axis, with which it is possible to adjust the laser focus to the workpiece surface as low as possible, and then, if necessary, when the thickness of the workpiece is changed, to move the adjusted laser module in the z-axis upwards.
