This year marks the 21th anniversary of the completion of the tallest building in Romania, the 351.5 m smoke chimney in Baia Mare. The Surveying-Geodesy team of the North University of Baia Mare, at present a structure belonging to the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Technical University of Cluj Napoca, monitored the verticality of the structure, immediately after completion, and then periodically, with a frequency of 1-2 years. This paper presents an analysis of the evolution of the vertical axis of the structure for the entire period and its current status. The measurements performed in 2015 revealed a rapid evolution of deviation from vertical of the upper third of the building which was probably caused by the demolition actions of the entire industrial complex to which it belonged. The paper is focused on presentation of both the current situation of the verticality and the current trend of its evolution, through the measurements made in several sessions over the past two years. This measurements were performed in days with a very weak action of the wind, the single load on the structure been the uneven sunshine, aimed to study the evolution of the vertical axis of the structure by removing the single external load and establishing for each measurements cycle its equilibrium position.
