The present article deals with the issues regarding the impact process at the impact of the material onto an enclosed conveyor belt supported by an impact bed consisting of impact rods at the feeding site. The theory of the impact process is based on the following preconditions: the whole impact process and the related processes are only performed at the impact site; the rock block is of relatively small dimensions compared to the conveyor dimensions; the impact bed is absolutely rigid; the conveyor belt is absolutely flexible; during the impact, the rock block moves together with the belt. The article presents the results of the laboratory experimental research on the puncture resistance of conveyor belt support systems with various types of impact rods. The introductory part describes the basic types of the support systems comprising the impact rods and the innovated support systems which are used in mining under the belt zones where the materials are loaded and unloaded and their role is to absorb the impact energy of the falling material. Description of the experiment, methods and the testing device are described in detail in the next part of the article. The experiments were carried out using a spherical impactor with the diameter of 25 mm, a drop-hammer with the weight of 105 kg, and impact rods of two types. One type of the impact rod comprised the steel reinforcement (Fe) and the second type contained the aluminium reinforcement (Al). The measurements were carried out using a high-speed camera to detect deflection of the impact rods. The output of the article is the determination of the optimal design of impact rods.
