The paper deals with the regrading and monitoring of the Brananska dump. It is located near the village of Branany on the Bilina open-cast mine, which is one of the mining sites of the company Severoceske doly a.s. The mining site reaches a depth of over 200 m, making it the deepest open-pit mine in the Most Basin. The coal seam thickness is from 25 m to 35 m.
The first chapter is devoted to geotechnical description of the area of interest. Due to the fact that it is an anthropogenic dump, it is necessary in this chapter to look at the history of the area of interest. From a historical overview, it is clear that this is a long-term unstable area near the village of Branany, which needs to be remedied and monitored appropriately. The paper deals with the analysis of remediation and monitoring measures performed so far.
A complex geological structure is a complication for mining. Mining operations take place in the east-west direction. The northern part of the deposit is limited by a number of barren zones and from the south by the seam outcrop in the Bilinsky fault area. The fixed binding limits restrict the western boundary of the deposit. Bucket wheel excavators are used for both overburden and coal mining.
Low-sulphur coal is mined here. The annual production is 9 million tons of coal. Most of the extracted coal is used as fuel for the adjacent Ledvice thermal power plant.
The Brananska dump is an area that will be very important for the future because of the main coal haul lines will be situated here. The basic essence of all studies carried out so far remains the solution of access through the coal mine site along the approximately 600?700 meters long section of the lateral southern mine slopes.
