The paper deals with development and application of the circular motion simulator (CMS), which was developed at the Department of Surveying of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. The CMS is a rotary motion device with precisely defined motion parameters (position, angular rate, angular acceleration and orientation), which allows to realize a broad spectrum of dynamic tests for various types of sensors (accelerometers, gyroscopes, total stations ? testing of tracking mode, inertial measurement systems and others). The paper describes the construction of the simulator and its control system in detail. The developed simulator is an alternative to commercial simulators that provides greater accuracy and the ability to perform combined tests (e.g. 3D simulator with temperature chamber). But they are less available because of their price and operating costs. The simulator mentioned was developed to complete department?s testing laboratory with a device allowing dynamic testing with required accuracy.
The second part of the paper deals with measurement of geometric parameters of the simulator. There were checked the circularity and the elevation of the simulator?s trajectory, the tilt of the measuring plate, when the arm is rotated. The calculation of the accuracy in the arm position is presented, also. On the base of the result of geometry inspection, the limits of the simulator were defined. The last part of the paper is devoted to dynamic testing of accelerometer using the proposed simulator. |
