|
Mathematical determination of the course of the baseline is necessary to establish the external border of the territorial sea, which is the state border. Its determination mainly affects the defining of the range of sovereign rights of individual states. For Poland, the determination of the course of the territorial sea baseline can be considered in two main aspects: legal and measurement-related.
This paper discusses the issue of preparing measurements of the baseline. It presents domestic and international regulations concerning the planning of hydrographic survey, including the method of designing sounding lines using both multibeam and single beam echo sounder. A discussion was also taken up on an effective and the optimal method of planning bathymetric measurements to enable determination of the territorial sea baseline with selected sea areas of the Republic of Poland as an example. It included a proposal for planning hydrographic survey depending on the shape of the coastline adjacent to the sounded area, the expected nature of the bottom surface in the area under study, the vessel used (manned or unmanned) and the type of depth measuring equipment installed in it. |
