Experience has shown that all buildings and constructions are subject to displacements and deformations. There are no absolutely stationary and non-deformable constructions. Deformations are also caused by variable loads acting on the construction. For example, loads caused by wind, solar radiation, vibrations from machines during operation, seismic stress and others. The area in which the tallest building in Romania, i.e. the 351.5 m smoke chimney in Baia-Mare, is located has a very low seismic activity. In these circumstances, one of the most important stresses to which a slender concrete structure is subjected to is evolution under the influence of uneven sunshine. Continuing the research conducted for over 40 years by the coordinator of the team that drafted the paper, amid an almost total lack of information on this subject in the literature worldwide, the paper presents the conclusions of the last determinations carried this year on this movement of the upper third of the building, caused by uneven sunshine. Amid new recordings, the paper presents the current thinking of the authors on the studied phenomenon, correcting and complementing the previous findings made. In order to verify the verticality of the smoke chimney, we used the perpendicular bases tangents method. This method involves the selection of two station points, taking into account that each measurement base is made up of 2 station points and the bases must be perpendicular. In this project, for detailed surveying, a TOPCON GPT 3102 N total station was used. As a way of working, 4 successive station points were placed, at about 100 g, so as to be arranged in the 4 quadrants of a map. Hourly measurements were made between 7.00 and 19.00 hours, extrapolating the behavior of the structure for the rest of the timeframe based on the information accumulated over time.
