The paper aims to highlight a new development in the field of subterranean measurements undertaken in Romania, as it proposes a replacement for classical geodetic techniques with a laser scanning approach, through which measurements of the geometry of a terrain or structure can be made completely automatic, with high speed and precision. In this case, the chosen methods (classic measurements and 3D scanning) created the possibility of integrating and storing data into an intelligent three-dimensional model of the terrain and utilizing a series of calculus and graphic representation programs. Support network was determined as a traverse at the ends, by classic measurements. Quotas were determined by geometric precision levelling. Underground mining works are not accomplished in a chaotic manner only in view of the subterranean objectives, but through a strong connection and correlation to the existing structures on the surface, in such a manner that a system of coordinates identical to the one on the surface must be realized. Solving this complex problem comes in the form of combining methods and classic technologies of the planimetric and altimetric reference system on the surface and underground, with modern technologies such as the Laser Scanner.
