The research focused on hygienic assessment of surface and underground water sources used for centralized drinking water supply to RF population over the last 20 years.
Official statistic data collected on sanitary situation in RF regions by Rosstat over 2000-2019 were used as a basic source of information.
A database has been created; it contains more than 165 thousand data entries on 16 parameters describing surface and underground water sources used for centralized drinking water supply to population in 85 RF regions over the last 20 years.
Parameters describing water sources used for centralized drinking water supply were given both as absolute values (units) and as specific weights (%) of sources or water samples not conforming to sanitary-epidemiologic requirements.
We estimated changes in parameters over 2000-2019 and comparatively assessed quality of surface and underground water sources used for centralized water supply.
It was determined that in the RF over the last two decades overall quantity of centralized drinking water supply sources fell by 10% (mostly due to underground water sources disappearance) and amounted to 94.6 thousand units in 2019. And specific weight of sources not conforming to sanitary-epidemiologic requirements fell by 4.7% over the same period.
We revealed that over 2000-2019 there was an improvement in quality of water taken from centralized water supply sources. Specific weight of water samples not conforming to sanitary requirements as per sanitary-chemical parameters decreased by 2.7%; and as per microbiological parameters, by 4.8%; it amounted to 25.7% and 4.12% accordingly in 2019.
Basic factors that exert their influence on quality of water taken from centralized drinking water supply sources in the RF include geochemical peculiarities of water-bearing rocks; poorly treated and contaminated sewage including communal one coming into water sources; cross-border transfer of contaminants with water in rivers flowing from bordering states; etc.
