The article is devoted to the study of regional agriculture using geoinformation technologies. The article focuses attention on the need to apply geoinformation technologies in the process of studying the development of agriculture and rural areas. During the research the main regularities of the development of agriculture at the regional level were revealed. The authors have developed a series of maps reflecting modern processes in the development of the region?s agriculture. The main trends in the development of agriculture have been identified, a spatio-temporal and a GIS-analysis of the development of agricultural production and use of land resources has been carried out. On the basis of geo-information technologies a grouping of the territory according to the specialization of agriculture and economic and production forms of management was carried out. The basic principles and approaches to the creation of the GIS of agricultural production in the region are formulated, and a methodical scheme for its implementation at the regional level is presented. In paper the possibilities of GIStechnologies for monitoring and decision-making for sustainable development of agriculture and rural areas are analyzed.
