The statistical data on the structure of the land fund in Arad County, located in western Romania, highlights changes in the temporal evolution of the surfaces with different uses. One of the causes of these ?migrations? is changing the land use category, for various reasons, legal or technical aspects. In this context, the present paper describes the evolution of the surfaces and the stages that need to be taken to change the land use category, the case study being the ?transformation? from arable into pasture. In this study were used: data taken from the National Institute of Statistics, legislative references and data from the literature, as well as data taken from the field, obtained by detailed topographic surveys. In the field stage, Leica GS08 Plus GNSS was used to locate and measure the real estate. In the office stage, software specific to topo-cadastral and geospatial activities was used. Pastures and hayfields record, within 25 years, the most obvious ?mutations?, determined either by the afforestation process or the abandonment of arable land.
