Source water for water treatment plants can contain various mechanical and biological impurities and it is required to remove them, before the water can be used. In order to eliminate most of the solid pollutants coagulation process is commonly employed. Process of coagulation is efficient in the case of hard to settle and colloidal particles, which are usually present in water, but it is important to know what kind of pollutants are present in the suspension in order to find out the best possible solution.
This paper is focused on study of volume coagulation of bentonite suspensions. Research conducted include determination of particle size distribution and dependence between concentration of the suspension and the turbidity. Also relationship between coagulant dose and concentration was determined. In addition chemical and phase analysis of prepared suspensions were conducted as well. The research can help in the process of coagulation, namely critical coagulation concentration determination. It can be also used in order to design sedimentation tanks for suspension of similar origin in water treatment plants. |
