The aim of the study was to present of phosphorus and nitrogen migration direction in the flow - through lakes system by mathematical relationships. Mathematical models included the water flow at the inlet and outlet of the lakes, the residence time of lake, the phosphorus and nitrogen concentration in the water and bottom sediment, the size of nutrient release from bottom sediments. The models of P and N retention for lakes of upper Pas??ka indicate that the retention of nutrients in flow - through lakes is primarily affected by the volume of flow at the inflow and outflow of river to lakes. Important factor to be considered in determining the value of retention is the size of P and N release from sediment. There was no significant effect of residence time of water on the retention of both nutrients.
