Health and working efficiency of river and marine craft crews depend largely on the quality of drinking water. In this respect, autonomous water treatment systems for ships are of extreme importance, which should be efficient, reliable, and safe providing required quality of drinking water by all chemical and microbiological indicators. The article analyzes existing methods of cleaning, disinfecting and conditioning drinking water for ships. Methods of maintaining drinking water quality during prolonged storage in closed containers are studied. The fulfilled analysis shows that the most promising and safe methods of water preservation for ship systems are: ozonation, UV processing, cavitation, hydrogen peroxide treatment, filtration, sorption. Particular attention is paid to the activated oxidation processes (AOPs) of deep oxidation, which have been developed and applied in practice recently. The proposed method intends the joint use of chemical oxidants (ozone, hydrogen peroxide) and ultraviolet treatment. The AOPs is based on two reactions: direct photolysis and oxidation by hydroxyl radicals, which are formed as a result of photolysis of oxidants (ozone, hydrogen peroxide). Based on the conducted analysis, a complex ship system for preparation and conditioning of drinking water has been developed. The system includes a primary treatment with hydrogen peroxide, hydrodynamic cavitation with additional ejection of the ozone-air mixture, filtration and simultaneous use of UV irradiation and ozonation.
