The paper presents a medium-temperature modular pyrolysis plant generating electricity from syngas (SG) produced by air conversion of pyrolysis liquid and fed into the electrochemical generator (ECG) battery. Electric output of the plant and district water heater is 100 kW and 126 kW, respectively. The main power characteristics of the plant are determined by physicochemical modeling and energy budgeting methods. Specific consumption of pyrolysis liquid to produce electricity and heat is shown as 108 g/kW•h (169 gsf/(kW•h)) and 30 kg/GJ (197 kgsf/Gcal), respectively. Fuel utilization factor is 46.4%.
Specific consumption of natural and standard fuels with this plant is slightly higher than that of the power plants running on hydrocarbon natural fuels yet, at the same time, far below that of standalone diesel-electric plants. The paper provides recommendations on how to use pyrolysis liquid to generate electrical and thermal energy using a SOFC-based high-temperature fuel cell.
