Major efforts are directed worldwide in order to establish proper strategies for the preservation of soil quality, its protection and sustainable use by precision farming techniques. Since the in-depth distribution of soil moisture represent valuable information for farmers, electric and electromagnetic techniques were employed for its investigation. Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) with small electrode space interval was utilized for illustrating sectors of vertical water penetration and horizontal sectors of water accumulation. The electrical conductivity variations in soil obtained with induction electromagnetic (EMI) measurements, using vertical dipole mode, was used for fast conductivity mapping of cultivated areas in view of checking the efficiency of the drip-system and homogeneity of soil moisture distribution. Information on the local soil profile, valuable when interpreting the geophysical data, were obtained by direct observation, soil sampling and high resolution mapping of in-depth magnetic susceptibility variations. The soil specific characteristics on the Buzau county studied area have been established on a soil profile down to 1.6m depth, in a non-irrigated sector.
