UPPER-AIR ATMOSPHERIC DISPERSION STUDIES AT THE SITES OF NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS

Atmospheric dispersion climatic conditions relate to main factors determining the environment ecological condition and radiation safety in the NPP area. This article is devoted to generalization of the author's studies concerning the atmospheric dispersion in the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) for selection of the NPP sites and arrangement of ABL monitoring during the course of NPP construction and operation. Results of the ABL parameters climatic regime studies at Nizhny Novgorod NPP and Belorussian NPP are provided, these results have been obtained during the course of engineering survey; as well as the ABL condition remote monitoring results near the Belorussian NPP site. Brief description of the SODAR/RASS ABL remote sensing system is provided. Importance of the reference aerological stations representativeness confirmation is highlighted with regard to the NPP sites under study. Prospects of the ABL condition monitoring are denoted for other environmentally hazardous facilities, such as chemical enterprises and thermal power plants having the similar mechanism of pollution dissipation in the atmosphere.
