There are many technologies in road construction to ensure the better parameters of materials, mainly strength and deformation parameters and in recent years are very interesting and necessary so called environmentally acceptable technologies. With the development in the field of asphalt pavements there are various types of organic or chemical additives applied. The main reason of this application is to reduce the temperature used for producing and especially for laying of asphalt mixture. Chemical additives are surfactants affecting the viscosity of the bitumen or the adhesion between the binder and the aggregate. In Slovakia, as in many other countries, there are experiences with the application of various additives. The research results confirm the justification its use, but the practice is looking primarily for economic efficiency.
Paper focuses on the description of changes in the asphalt binder properties due to the use of certain chemical additives. Department of Transportation Engineering deals with this issue in research for more years and in paper presented results of laboratory verification are part of it. |
