In industrial electric installations there are situations when inductive circuits are connected to AC power sources. These operations are accompanied by the appearance of specific transients after which may occur overvoltage spikes that can become dangerous for components in the circuit. Evaluation of these surges and other electrical specific parameters are the subject of this paper. Measurement method is based on using a data acquisition system produced by National Instruments and MATLAB is used as software environment. For different values of connected circuit inductance, variation diagrams are drawn for inductive voltage, circuit current and the instantaneous power dissipated in the coil. The introduction of the paper presents the theoretical phenomenon, whose elements are ideal. Experimental measurements are made with real elements, where the power cord has a finite capacity. In this way the differences between the two situations are emphasized. The real situation implies the existence of capacities between the circuit elements, besides the capacity of the power cord. All this leads to the appearance of oscillatory surge during the process of connecting the inductive load. These oscillations affects the current curve and the instantaneous power dissipated in the coil so these variations differ from ideal.
