Among different methods of oil-crop biomass processing two main reactions are allocated ? oil transesterification with methanol and fatty acid deoxygenation. Last decades there is a growing researcher?s interest to the production of fatty alcohols with carbon number 10-18 by selective hydrogenation of carboxylic group of fatty acids. These alcohols can be used in various fields, e.g. pharmaceutical, cosmetic, fine organic synthesis as well as in biofuel industries. In this work, we propose to use polymeric catalyst based on Pd nanoparticles embedded into the matrix of hypercrosslinked polystyrene in the stearic acid hydrogenation reaction to obtain stearyl alcohols. The sample analysis showed that the main reaction products were the stearic aldehyde, stearyl alcohol and n-octadecane. Pd/MN-270 was found to be the most active catalyst for fatty acid hydrogenation. The use of the catalyst allowed decreasing the operation conditions down to 150 °C and 3MPa of hydrogen pressure as compared to the conventional 250 °C and 30 MPa. The presence of the developed catalyst leads to the formation of stearyl alcohol with the yield of 99% in hexane medium under the chosen conditions.
