Due to high quantities of animal fat resulted from leather industry, the necessity of a solution in order to neutralize the negative effects that appear by their discharge into the nature has led to continuous research in order to obtain the most suitable one for solving the environmental issue with energy recovery. Between combustion and chemical treatment, the combustion has been chosen in this study as being the most effective one, by technical and economical criteria.

Before this combustion, there were performed tests in order to find out the chemical composition of the animal fats used (elemental analysis, calorific value, viscosity). These results revealed the resemblance with the characteristics of liquid hydrocarbons, which led to the possibility to make different mixing compositions in order to propose different mixing possibilities for combustion.

This study is an opportunity to follow the problem of leather industry wastes and propose a feasible solution in order to solve at least one of the wastes problems that tanneries have.
