The solubility of gases in liquid is an important parameter required for the interpretation of rate data in gas-liquid, gas-liquid-liquid and gas-liquid-solid reactions. Gas-liquid mass transfer plays an important role in many industrial processes, e.g. methanol synthesis. The overall rate of gas-phase and gas-liquid phase reactions strongly depends on mass transfer. A large number of solubility data of hydrogen and carbon monoxide in a variety of solvents is available in the literature, but the data on the gas solubility at higher temperatures and pressures are limited. Thus, the study of the solubility of CO and H2, which are the main compounds of synthesis gas, in different solvents at high temperatures and pressures is of considerable interest. The current work is devoted to the study of the solubility of carbon monoxide, hydrogen and their mixture in isopropyl alcohol. The data obtained were used to calculate the kinetic parameter for liquid-phase methanol synthesis. We investigated the influence of temperature in the range of 373-473 K and pressure (1-5 MPa) on the solubility of carbon monoxide, hydrogen and gas mixture with CO:H2 volume ratio 1:6.
