Studies to determine the forms of finding copper and iron in the converter slag of the Balkhash copper production were carried out. The microprobe analyzes of converter slag show that in these samples a significant amount of copper is in a sulphide form, lead in both sulphide and oxide, and in the form of glass, and zinc in oxide.
Laboratory studies on the flotation of the original converter slag, as well as after remelting and its slow cooling, were carried out according to a scheme including the basic, control flotation.
The following technological parameters of flotation concentration of slag are established:
- grinding - 90-95% of the class-0.074 mm;
- consumption of reagents: CaO - 500-700 g / m3, Na2S - 2.7% - 100 g / t, butyl xanthate - 0.5% -200 g / t, T-80-0.5% -60 g / t , pulp density 30% tv, flotation time: basic flotation - 19 min, control flotation -10 min.
The results of flotation enrichment of remelted slag with a copper content of 1.89% according to a scheme including basic, control flotation using reagents: CaO, Na2S, butyl xanthate and T-80 show the possibility of obtaining a copper concentrate with a copper content of 13.21%, while recovering 57 , 32%. Flotation of the melted and after its slow cooling of the original slag allows to increase the recovery by 7.6% at a content of 15.73%.
