The requirements for maritime application are very strict because of the effects of seawater on the materials. All the devices operating in seawater should be waterproof because of corrosion and electricity dangerous. This problem is more important for electric motors and other equipment with rotating parts where there is a necessity to seal the output shaft and other connecting features in order to isolate the motor from penetrating of seawater. Differential pressure between seawater and air in the motor causes absorbing the water into machine, and the motor gets full of seawater after several cycles. The one of the ways to solve this problem is the filling of motor by oil. Such solution has some limitation and suitable only for low speed application because of friction between rotating parts and oil. It is necessary to solve a lot of problem for design of such motors. The article considers the variants of electric motor for winch used for seawater applications. Proposed design of winch driver is oil-filled brushless DC motor with axial or radial magnetic flux. The variants of electric motor were analyzed with ANSYS Maxwell software. The total volume and mass, the efficiency, the total cost, the technologies were chosen for criterions. The results have shown the variant of out runner design for brushless permanent magnet motor with radial flux provides the best characteristics and technology to manufacturing.
