The range of using the electric machines with high speed is increased year by year. It is very easy to explain. The power of electric machines depends from speed and sizes. If we will increase the speed we may decrease the sizes. So, the machines will have more less weight and materials. We may decrease the total cost of unit. But it is in case if we will solve many technologic problems.
The main problem is the strength of rotating rotor. It is known that a centrifugal force depends from the speed as square-law. Another problem is resonance frequencies which the rotor must overcome in process of acceleration. This factor decreases the reliability and damages the bearings. Generally a radial gap machines are used for this application (fig.1). But for rotor with small diameter and big length the technology problem of making winding is appears. It is very difficult to put winding in lamination in this case. It is the additional problem. It is very difficult to take of the heating in this construction. The heating is great because the frequency in steel lamination is high and the loss in steel are very big. The application of an axial gap machine with many sections instead of a radial gap machine is considered in this article. The advantages of such solution are showed. It is the high efficiency, good cooling and high reliability. But for this design it is necessary to develop technology for making this new device. Some solutions are offered.
