This article is referring to a short study regarding the energy efficiency status in retail industry in Romania, in particular an analysis of the big sizes commercial buildings in this matter. It contains data which will allow us to compare an existing building with the industry norms in terms of the energy consumption and energy costs. Additionally, there are some recommendations provided to be taken care of in the near future for controlling energy better, using energy in a more efficient way and reducing avoidable waste while adding to the customers services the required interior comfort conditions. The objectives of the article are to present action plans to be implemented into the buildings in order to achieve energy efficiency in the commercial buildings. Supplementary to the main outcomes, the reduced energy costs, obtained from the applied measures to improve energy efficiency buildings, there are presented others benefits arisen from the energy efficiency investments in buildings, like: reducing energy use for space heating/cooling and water heating; improving interior comfort; enhancing the property value; reducing the operational requirements; reducing the power energy for lightning, office machinery and other appliances. Some best practices to obtain the energy efficiency from the monitored green commercial buildings side are also presented.
