Currently, the trend is to increase the demand for high-rise buildings roofs that would serve as a social space or as a green roof. This trend is also confirmed by the fact that due to the lack of space in the city, the buildings are being built up even higher and the social space needs to be created as a part of them. The main idea of this article was to analyze the different shapes of the roofs using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation software and to demonstrate the suitability of their use. From several possible roof shapes, an open dome and an open box were selected. Four modifications of the mentioned shapes of the roofs were created and subjected to analysis. The unchanged parameters were their floor dimensions, height and the fact that they have to remain open. Roofs were loaded simplistically from the one side with a wind speed of 14 meters per second, which should not be exceeded for the majority of basic days at the height of 110 meters above ground in the urban area of Bratislava, Slovakia according to meteorological measurements. Expected results were magnitudes of wind speed and turbulence patterns inside the roofs. Based on these results, it was possible to predict more closely the behavior of the wind inside the roof were social space would be created. Subsequently these results were compared with statistically determined values of wind speed and its impact on the comfort of the people. Based on the results and statistics of people?s wind perception a recommendation on the suitability of a roof shape can be given.
