VARIATIONS OF RADON VOLUMETRIC ACTIVITY DURING SUCCESSIVE SEISMIC EVENTS

The article discusses some patterns of reflection of successive seismic events in the field of radon volumetric activity (VAR). The results of the reflection in the radon field of a sequential series of successive seasons with a small time interval of seismic events indicate that the most likely mechanism for increasing the volumetric activity of radon is its desorption from the surface of the pore space under the influence of elastic oscillations arising during the preparation of such events. The decrease in the magnitude of the registered anomalies of the VAR for the subsequent event is due to the lack of equilibrium between the radium content in the rock and radon in the fractured-pore space due to the small time interval between tectonic events. The calculated model of ?possible? maximum values of the radon activity volume anomaly is given. The calculations of the ?possible? maximum magnitude of the SAR anomaly for subsequent events, under the condition of equilibrium between radium and radon, showed good agreement with the magnitude of the VAR anomaly of the previous event. The explanation of this behavior of radon volumetric activity due to a change in the diffusion characteristics of the medium does not correspond to the degree of its response to the impact of the processes of preparation of seismic events of various scales. Conclusions on adjustment of the interpreted results are made. When studying the dependence of the magnitude of the VAR anomaly on the energy and spatial characteristics of seismic events, it is necessary to take into account the loss of radon due to the previous event, if they occurred with an interval of time less than the time to establish radioactive equilibrium.
