The advantage of countries with unique tourism resources is enhanced by a well-thought-out and focused innovation policy of state and regional organizations, which allows creating unique, attractive tourist offers that provide the state with a competitive advantage in international tourism. When researching the tourist potential of the territories and developing programs for their development, specialists have to deal with a large amount of information characterizing various aspects of space. An indispensable means of processing this kind of information are geographical information systems (GIS). GIS provides an opportunity to quickly respond to any emerging situation in any territory, with the receipt of all the necessary cartographic and thematic information on it. They represent a cartometric study with the simultaneous construction of any maps, plans and diagrams. Based on GIS, one can simulate various processes, phenomena and study the change in their state over time. Geoinformation systems find a place in scientific and practical activities everywhere, where geographically distributed information is used and there is a need for territorial analysis, territorial assessment and territorial forecast. GIS can be of great help to a travel agency if a GIS map is created with the resorts with which the company cooperates, plans for their territories, information on the quality of service, photos of hotels and their rooms, beaches, names of original local dishes kitchens and other objects of interest to the company. All this creates a huge advantage over other sellers of such a tourism product. Currently, as the main automated information system used in geographic information technologies, GIS is the most promising information system for solving business management and monitoring tasks in the tourism sector.
Innovations in the tourism industry should be aimed at the formation of a new tourism product, as well as the application of new management methods and the active use of modern information technologies, including GIS, which will significantly reduce the prices of tourist products, which means increase the competitiveness of tour operators in the national and international markets.
