Hydrogeological maps are the main form of graphic representation of the hydrogeological studies results and enable various areas to be distinguished according to their hydrological character in relation to the geology. Geological sections reflect the most important characteristics of the geological structure to depth and have their own legend. At the same time, the hydrogeological section reflects the geological structure and hydrogeological conditions of the site along the established direction (section line), where the hydrogeological wells are located. Hydrogeological structures are mapped as areas to the depth of the studied location. Thus, a hydrogeological section is a ?hydrogeological map? of a vertical plane.
Unification of data structures and their design means of displaying hydrogeological information in map form is necessary to develop and maintain the integrity of spatial information during digitalization of archival data and creating the new maps [1, 2]. The use of GIS technologies in hydrogeology contributes to the transformation of cartographic work methods. At the same time, scientific and methodological recommendations and rules for the representation of objects are required, not only on digital hydrogeological maps, but also on cross-sections associated with them [3].
Within the framework of the ??05131239 ?Development of a scientific and methodological basis for structuring the hydrogeological maps using the geo-information systems? project, a reference map was created and digitalization of hydrogeological cross-sections within the Almaty region was carried out taking into account the requirements given in the specialized literature and GOSTs of the Republic of Kazakhstan [4, 5].
This article highlights the digitalization stage of hydrogeological cross-sections that accompany cartographic material, explaining and supplementing it. Hydrogeological cross-sections are compiled in the study of hydrogeological conditions. Hydrogeological sections reflect the age of the rocks, the lithological composition of the aquifers and water-resistant strata, their facies changes, tectonic disturbances, wells hydrogeological, etc.
