An actual problematic question in geography didactic, directly related to the quality and effectiveness of training, is that of the methodological principles. They are defined as the regulatory basic rules and criteria adopted in the practice, the compliance of which determines the optimal organization and effective implementation of the geography training process. The system of principles is open and dynamic. The principles themselves are not independent and isolated from one another, but interact. Principles are of a particular importance in the construction of teaching and learning. Methodologically, their actual use in geography training process is closely connected with the learning situations and possible reflections. However, their essential role can also be sought in the implementation of the leading ideas of geographic knowledge and cognition, as an essential component of the curriculum content. Such a leading idea is sustainable development. It is found not only in the geographic content, but also in the content of other secondary school subjects. How do we see the realization of this leading idea? In our view, this is possible by considering sustainable development as a principle of training and operationalizing it as such. Despite the undeniable relevance, there is still no established methodology for such operationalization. In this regard, we are taking a step forward by offering specific examples that are applicable in the practice of secondary school in Bulgaria. We offer sample options for both the grammar school and high school stages of secondary school in Bulgaria. We are taking into account the current curriculum in Geography and Economics.
