The main cause of air pollution from vehicles is related to the harmful emissions from engines, manly associated to the petrol industry and internal combustion engine manufacturers. As mention into the technical literature, the pollution emitted directly from engines is not the only cause of concern. Besides the liquids obtained from petrol (fuel and oils) and the ones used for air conditioning, the particles thrown off from brake pads is the third cause of air pollution from components of vehicles. It has been reported that due to the braking process, in highly dense urban zones are eliminated metallic and non-metallic particles under the size of 200 nm, which can easily be inhaled. These particles, which are within the particulate matter (PM) category, are encountered into the air as mixture of particles and drops of liquid. Between these, the smallest particle size, which is less than 2.5 ?m, known under the name of ultrafine particles or PM2.5, represents the higher level of rick for the health. Diseases such as inflammation of the respiratory system, asthma, pulmonary emphysema or chronic bronchitis are repeatedly associated into medical studies to particles thrown off during the braking. Thus, the aim of the present paper is to statistically analyse the correlation between the generated particles during vehicle braking and specific diseases of the Romanian population by using Pearson correlation coefficient. The results show that there is a strong positive correlation between the quantity of particles thrown off during braking process and number of people suffering from tumours or lung diseases. The highest correlation was obtained in the case of the death caused by the lung disease, the particles in suspension has the same effect for both, men and women (0.95 < r < 0.97).
