The problem of obtaining compositions, that would act as biomaterials and fit all demands, is well-known. One the branch of application materials such is the hydrogels. High retention capacity of water and physiological fluids, sufficient physio-mechanical properties and safety of usage are ones of the most relevant specifications for medical hydrogels. It is quite hard to develop such formulations. Perspective initial substances for synthesis are gelatin (peptide native to human collagen) and tannin (natural compound with anti-inflammatory properties). It is necessary to oxidize tannin before it can act as crosslinker in a hydrogel formation. All among plenty of oxidative agents it is difficult to find out appropriate one, which could effectively support oxidation, but would not cause harmful decay byproducts and further toxic influence on human body. The objective of that research was to gain and study the impact of oxidizers on properties of hydrogel compositions. There were obtained hydrogels of gelatin crosslinked by oxidized tannin in that study. This work was investigated the sorption behavior and properties of materials in solution with different pH. The work also studied the effect of oxidants (H2O2; DMSO) with different molar ratios to tannin on the sorption properties of the obtained hydrogels. There were studied thermal properties using TGA and structure of compositions by IR spectroscopy. It was found that better sorption properties and thermal stability were achieved by using hydrogen peroxide in 0.7-0.8 mole ratio.
