The wind energy is substantially growing in the last decade, but the biggest challenge remains the prediction of the performances of the wind turbines. The increasing energy demand and climate changes forced us to commit quick decisions and to develop efficient solutions. One of the solutions can be repowering and significant changes in transmission systems to deliver it through the electric grid. Fantanele Cogealac is the largest onshore wind farm in Romania. The wind farm exist since 2012, so in at least 10 years the farm need to be improved. The repowering is the vast improvement in turbine technology. From this perspective we have analysed the current wind energy generated by the 240 turbines, each wind turbine has a capacity of 2.5 MW. According to 20-year time reanalysis data, provided by ERA5 data, we have compared them with in situ data for a period of time. The objective of this work is to provide a framework that demonstrates project management concepts on repowering systems after the 20-25 years, a lifetime of a wind farm. On the study case, we will apply Repowering Strategic Project Management (RSPM) by life time extension. We have calculate how much the power can be improved, only by replacing the new generation of wind blades. This improvement comes in part simply because the new blades are bigger and this is able to capture more of the wind’s energy. Repowering can increase a net power generated with more than 20 percent.
