The construction sector is one of the major consumers of non-renewable energy and natural resources, but also an important factor in increasing global warming and climate change by producing greenhouse gases. In Europe, around 30% of CO2 emissions and 36% of total greenhouse gases are a direct or indirect consequence of the construction sector. At EU level it is estimated that 40% of energy consumption is due to public / private sector buildings. All EU policies regarding climate, energy efficiency and the use of resources, and current strategies are focused on increasing the properties of the thermal insulation of the envelope, increasing the air-tightness and the use of mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, the improvement of the performance of the equipment, education and awareness-raising at the grassroots level are taken into account in the civil engineering field. Bio-eco-innovative thermal insulation mattresses obtained by recycling and reuse of post-industrial textile waste simultaneously with the use of natural vegetable fibers and sheep wool represent an ecological alternative to common thermal insulation materials that are already used in the construction industry. The aim of this paper is to present preliminary experimental research results regarding the mechanical properties of different thickness bio-eco-innovative mattresses and study their influence on the functionality of the non-woven heat-insulating product, for their intended use. Experimental results obtained on bio-eco-innovative thermal insulation mattresses show a good behaviour of the materials both in terms of mechanical properties, mold attack sensibility, worm and insect attack resistance and also to the biological attack of soil degree.
