The purpose of the study was the introduction and cultivation using green technologies of a perennial aromatic plant species - Iris pallida Lam. (Dalmatian iris or sweet iris, Iridaceae Juss.), widely recognized for its highly decorative and perfumery production, in the humid subtropical climate of the Batumi Botanical Garden, followed by its study for the content of biologically active substances.
Iris pallida have been studied in seven different locations in the garden with varying exposure and soil composition. They are undergoing full generative development- in subsequent years, it became possible to propagate Iris pallida with seeds and planting material of local reproduction; Iris pallida Lam., an introduced aromatic plant that has been studied in the Batumi Botanical Garden (Georgia, Adjara) can be successfully cultivated with green technologies in the humid subtropical climate of the Black Sea coast of Adjara.
Based on the research of raw materials obtained from aromatic plants, such as iris roots, and studying them on the content of bioactive substances by Gas Chromatography mass spectrometry GC-MS method, significant compounds were identified. Most of them are known and used in medicine, perfumery, cosmetics, and many other fields. They have antioxidant, anti-infectious, antimicrobial, and other valuable qualities. The biochemical composition of essential oils obtained by green technologies is given at the next stage of research.
