This paper presents an electro-acoustic instrument, used in geophysical (seismic) prospecting, for the reception of sound waves, namely the geophone. The geophone is a transducer which transforms the displacement of the soil particles into electrical signals. The article aims at presenting the functioning of a standard electromagnetic geophone and of the newer geophone models, built using the MEMS (micro-electro mechanical systems) technology. Below, a scheme for amplifying the original signal generated by a SM-24 geophone, and by the MCP6286 operational amplifier, will be proposed.
