Abstract

Konya Basin has wide area which 62.000 km2 and has important water potential. However water reserves decreasing in basin recent years. Groundwater levels are decreasing for global warming, scarcity of rains, unconscious usage, plant cover, uncontrolled illegal wells and conditions of basin coming near drought. Climatic data are changing because of global warming in Konya Basin. Average rain is 280,8 mm and this is very low. Drought period is living since 1998 in basin. Rain quantity of 2007 is less than average of long years and rains are less than evaporation – perspiration. Groundwater feds by surface flow, rains, inside flow from underground and filtered from irrigation water. Groundwater discharges by evaporation – perspiration, extreme drilling, outside flow from underground and discharge to outside of basin with pump. Basin’s total water potential is 7.620 hm3. Over ground water quantity is 1.670 hm3 and groundwater quantity is 5.950 hm3. Usable water potential is 3.185 hm3. Using too much than this quantity. Decrease of groundwater level was determined 1-10 meter and rains which dropped in basin didn’t increase groundwater level recent years. Decreases of groundwater levels are increasing every year. Climatic data, unconscious usage, irrigation methods, plant species which raise and encouragement of giving to farmer should change. If not change, basin will be drought.
