Abstract

This paper presents the research undertaken in order to establish a processing technology for the Budureasa dolomitic limestone. For this, a series of physico-chemical and mineralogical analyzes were performed, but also unitary processing operations such as grinding, calcination, gravitational concentration and flotation, and solubilization with carbon dioxide in an aqueous medium to obtain a MgO ? rich concentrate, usable in various fields of activity, under economic efficiency conditions. Mineralogical, chemical, thermogravimetric and thermodifferential analyzes on the three stage homogenized and shredded sample revealed the presence of 3 predominant minerals, namely calcite, brucite and dolomite, with an average MgO content of 22.56%. Laboratory research provides indications on the possible dolomitic limestone processing with brucite from, Budureasa, Bihor County. The best results for both the 2-3 mm crushed material and milled material were obtained with the Mozley concentrator which allowed obtaining concentrate with 37-39% MgO and weight extractions ranging from 12-15% In order to establish an optimal technology for the processing of the brucite mineralization from Budureasa, under conditions of economic efficiency, the following aspects should be considered: ? The moisture content of the resulting products should not exceed 3%, so that they can be delivered to the beneficiaries, thereby being necessary to apply dry processing procedures; ? Qualitative parameters of brucite concentrate include not only maximum limits for MgO content but also minimum limits for silicates and oxides of aluminium and iron as well as granulometric limits imposed by various beneficiaries; ? The fields of use of all mineralogical species from the brucite deposit are so varied that it can be fully utilized by obtaining at least 4 quality varieties with different contents of brucite and magnesium oxide, respectively.
