APPLICATION OF STATISTICAL METHODS FOR STUDYING TIME SERIES ON TRIPS OF BULGARIAN RESIDENTS ABROAD
Abstract
Sources that contain data about tourism in Bulgaria are both structured and unstructured. Information from these xls and pdf files is organised in a created relational database. The database stores time series on tourism flow (trips of Bulgarian residents abroad and foreign tourists to Bulgaria), expenditure of outbound tourists, revenues from international tourism and employment in tourism. This article studies time series on trips of Bulgarian residents abroad (outbound tourists) by country of destination and by purpose of visit for the period 2001-2015. Data on 1 African, 2 North American, 5 Asian and 30 European countries have been processed and assessed. Information about outbound tourism by purpose of visit (holidays and recreation, visiting friends and relatives, business and others) has been investigated separately. Analysis of variance and Duncan's multiple range test have been applied for this study. The present survey has also calculated and analyzed the share of trips undertaken by Bulgarian tourists to the indicated countries in comparison with the total number of trips, along with the share of trips by purpose of visit as compared to the total number of trips for the considered time interval. Significant differences have been observed in the results from the statistical evaluation of the number of outbound trips by country of destination and by purpose of visit respectively.
