Abstract

The Copenhagen process sets the basis for cooperation of European dedicated institutions and establishes a basis for defining the set of actions and attitudes for adopting the Vocational Education and Training methodology and implementing it into an individual formation. A set of priorities to be followed were established: European dimension of this approach; transparency, information and guidance; recognition of competences and qualifications; quality assurance. Implementation of Vocational Education and Training into nuclear industry, a niche sector has particular challenges. Even so the benefits of the methodology are undeniable: reduction of costs with personnel training; better and faster insertion into labor market of freshly graduates; a wide variety of possible employers to be approached based on received education and training by an individual; possibility of an individual to choose a desired position and acquire targeted knowledge based on specific position requirements; etc. At University Politehnica of Bucharest, Nuclear Engineering section a similar approach was adopted. With the help of European Union funding University followed the future labor market needs and adapted its curricula, with help of international collaboration, based on future project envisaged: actual and future labor market needs, possibility of new nuclear reactors construction, possibility of a new technology demonstrator construction in Romania, possibility of increasing need for jobs due to development of the Enhanced Light Infrastructure project in Romania. Developing of a small innovative tool aimed at analyzing the needs of both a company and also helping a future employee to define its own training needs and with the help of a small employer database we managed to continuously adapt our curricula to actual and future needs.
