Abstract

In terms of sustainability of mining, one of the decisive factors, in addition to economics, is safety. This mainly includes minimizing the effects of safety risk factors such as noise, vibration and technical seismicity, dustiness, the occurrence of harmful gases, etc. From this point of view, it is necessary to pay due attention to this area in research and try to maximize the protection of workers, but also the environment, from the effects of these risk factors resulting from the mining and subsequent mineral processing. This article deals with one of these risk safety factors, namely noise generated during aggregate production in quarrying operations. The impact of noise pollution on workers during work is a major safety problem. Noise can cause not only permanent hearing and non-hearing health problems, but can also lead to a limitation of hearing abilities, which often leads to occupational accidents. The article contains information resulting from research realized directly in the aggregate production operation. As part of this research, various noise-reducing measures were implemented, the purpose of which was to reduce noise pollution on workers and the surrounding area. The article presents data from measurements that present the effectiveness of the applied measures in terms of noise reduction, but also point to the secondary effects of these measures, which had an impact, for example, on the performance of the entire aggregate production process in quarrying operations.
