Abstract

In the context of sustainable development the problem of water pollution has a greatest importance due to the necessity of ensuring a clean environment for the next generation. Water quality standards provide the framework of accepted water parameters: chemical, physical, microbiological, biochemical, radiological. The European standards show the sampling method and terminology accep ted for that in according with macro- regional environmental conditions. In the present conditions, a good standard of life for people means to develo p human activities in a clean envi ronment. Following this ideas the drinking water parameters must be a ll the time in normal range accepted. In this paper we made a complexes analyze about water quality in lower Danube river (in Galati area) and the cost of drinking water af ter pollutant was eliminated. Galati town it is a medium town in Romania with about 400,000 inhabitant and need considerable quantities of drinking water daily (about six billion liters). The quantities and diversity of polluted substances discharged into the sewerage system and than in Danube river are increase. The water cleaning installations are very expensive and the cost of potable water for population grows up progressively. A solution for decrease the costs with water cleaning are to diminish the quantities of pollutants substanc es discharged by diverse users. A solution to reduce water pollution is to raise public awareness to minimize pollutants at the source.
