Abstract

Data analysis for multiple data source locations on the wave climate regime of the Western Black Sea Coast is significantly required in port design as well in the delineations of the sheltered conditions, various emergency situations in maritime port areas. Under the extreme wave’s regime circumstances, there is a limited possibility to find certain low-energy areas for ships sheltering. The wave regime presents specificities of the wave field generated by the wind, especially in the port adjacent areas, under the strong incidence of specific local characteristics induced by port jetties configuration in relation with the main directions of the regional winds as well as their duration and intensity. For Constanta Port, in the evaluation of the marine hydrological regime at multi-annual timescale were considered the use of modeled as well measured data. Data provided by local measurements and observations of sea-level oscillations, recorded from nine decades, against the Wave Model results’ data for the Black Sea, provided by European Center for Medium Term Forecast were considered in a statistics analysis approach for delineation of sheltered area according to the Constanta Port layout/topography and its role for the distribution of waves and currents at limited scale.
