THE DAMAGE RISK EVALUATION OF GROUND VIBRATION INDUCED BY BLASTING IN NAIPLI QUARRY
Abstract
The environmental problems arisen from ground vibration and air blast have been faced and discussed frequently in various industries such as mining, construction, quarry etc. where blasting operations are unavoidable. So the ground vibration effects induced by blasting on structures and human beings need to be predicted, monitored, and controlled. With the increase of the environmental constraints on the levels of disturbance induced by blasting operations nearby residents, there is also an increasing necessity to design cautious blasting with greater precision. Therefore, the determination of maximum amount of explosive per delay for a certain distance, especially in large blasts, has a great importance for the elimination of these environmental problems. This paper presents evaluation of the damage risk of the ground vibration induced by blasting, which was performed at The Naipli Quarry that supplies a cement plant in western of Turkey due to increasing complaints of the neighbouring villages. Therefore it had been necessary to control the blasting and to predict the level of vibration in order to prevent the damage to the buildings located nearby this site and to reduce these complaints. Within the scope of the study, ground vibration components were measured for 20 events using 5 different types vibration monitors (3 White Mini-Seis, 1 Instantel Blastmate and 1 Instantel Minimate Plus Model) considering the directions of the villages, in order to predict the peak particle velocity, determine the slope of the attenuation curve together with the maximum charge per delay, and for the evaluation of the damage risk.

, but also predicting the paricle velocity, and damage risk when not any vibration monitors are used. The obtained ampirical relation, and s ite constants from these regression analysis, would be reliable guides for the works on this quarry. Neverthless it would be useful to support, and update this formula by the new da ta which can be obtained during the quarry activities ACKNOWLEDGEMENT This work was supported by the Executive Secreterait of Scientific Research Projects of Istanbul University (Project number is UDP-134/25042003) 3th International Multidisciplinary Scientific GeoConference SGEM2003 www.sgem.org REFERENCES Ceylanoğlu, A., Kahriman, A., “Measurement and Analysis of Ground Vibration Induced by Bench Blasting in a Celestine Open-p it Mine in Turkey”, Fourth International Symposium on Environmental Issues and Wa ste Management in Energy and Mineral
