THE APPROPRIATENESS OF THE USE OF PARCEL REDUCTION COEFFICIENT TO ASSESS THE SPATIAL EFFECTS OF LAND CONSOLIDATION WORKS
Abstract
The scope of benefits of land consolidation is wide пїЅ there can be indicated spatial, agricultural, socio-economic, landscape and environmental effects of the process. As a result of the process there can be noticed significant structural changes in rural areas. Land consolidation process enables to improve the inadequate spatial structure of farms, remove the adverse effects of land fragmentation and improve agricultural productivity. The assessment of the land fragmentation reduction requires reliable measurement. The comparison of the number of parcels in the farm before and after the land consolidation is commonly used to exemplify spatial effects of the process. The paper deals with the use and misuse of the parcel reduction coefficient to assess the spatial effects of land consolidation works. It focuses particularly on problems relating to the appropriateness of the use of parcel reduction coefficient when the parcels in the farm are located within one land complex. Analyses of changes in spatial distribution of agricultural parcels in the farm before and after land consolidation are made on the basis of land consolidation documentation for the selected research object. Finally, the paper emphasizes the purposefulness of the evaluation of the пїЅactualпїЅ land consolidation effects and proposes the formula for the пїЅactual parcel reduction coefficientпїЅ as alternative measure.
