POPULARITY OF ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ACCORDING TO ISO 14001 IN POLAND

Abstract

Climate change, environment pollution, environmental pressures force all entrepreneurs to implement actions arising from the laws and take additional management initiatives to protect the environment. Environment management system according to ISO 14001 can be a useful tool in this field. Environment management system is a part of the whole enterprise management system that includes organizational structure, planning, distribution of responsibilities and resources needed to develop, implement and lead management to take account of environmental problem. In Poland, managers of different enterprises, organization began to be interested in management systems in the 90's of the XX century. Today, many enterprises have implemented at least one management system, including environmental one. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the functioning of the environment management systems in Polish enterprises and their popularity. The research took the form of survey that has been filled by senior or lower managers of different types of enterprises located in south of Poland. In this survey they could share their opinion on the research system, its implementation process, problems during this process, functioning of the system, the benefits achieved after its implementation.
