DIGITAL TOPOGRAPHY AND INTEGRATED REMOTE SENSING FOR THE ADMINISTRATION AND CAPITALIZATION OF UNIVERSITY HERITAGE. A GEOSPATIAL APPROACH APPLIED TO ULS TIMI?OARA
Abstract
The development of geospatial technologies in recent years has profoundly changed the field of topography and cadastre. Now, digital methods using LiDAR, drones, GNSS, and multispectral imaging provide a detailed three-dimensional picture of land, buildings, and ecosystems on campuses. This research examines the combined use of digital topography and remote sensing technologies to manage and capitalize on the resources of the University of Life Sciences "King Mihai I" from Timisoara. By integrating data from LiDAR scans, aerial images from drones, GNSS and GIS measurements, digital terrain models, 3D models of buildings and thematic maps have been created that help in the planning and management of agricultural and educational lands. The results show that the efficiency of the topographic process has increased by more than 65%, the time required for data collection has been reduced by 70%, and the positioning accuracy is 2.8 cm. The paper illustrates how these advanced technologies can support academic research and the sustainable development of the university's agricultural and real estate heritage, while also playing an important role in creating a reliable geospatial database for land management.
