COMPARATIVE ASSESSMENT OF ENERGY POTENTIAL OF AGRICULTURAL AND VITICULTURAL BIOMASS FOR PELLET PRODUCTION
Abstract
This paper focuses on the comparison of the energy potential of biomass originating from agricultural and viticultural production, with emphasis on its utilization in the form of pellets. Selected types of agricultural residues and viticultural wastes were analyzed, specifically grape pomace skins and pruning residues from vine cutting. These materials represent underutilized by-products with significant potential for energy recovery. The main objective is to evaluate the suitability of these materials as alternative fuels in terms of their calorific value and to identify differences between the examined biomass groups. In addition, selected physical and processing-related characteristics influencing pellet quality are considered. Attention is also given to the technological aspects of processing raw materials into pelletized form, including drying, particle size reduction, and densification, which are essential for achieving stable and efficient fuel properties. The findings indicate that viticultural wastes represent a promising energy source with significant potential for efficient utilization. Their application in pellet production can contribute to sustainable energy generation and supports circular economy principles through the effective valorization of agricultural and viticultural residues.
